This is a great price for a trophy spotted hyena hunting safari in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. This renowned South African outfitter has put together an affordable package for the hunter who wants to hunt a spotted hyena in an area with a good population of these animals. For those of you who want to get that special hyena trophy, this is the outfitter that offers the best chance of getting it done on an ethical “fair chase” hunting safari.
The Spotted Hyena Hunting Area
This hunt for a trophy spotted hyena will take place on 3 farms totaling 10,000 acres, all having good populations of hyenas. This outfitter can get a few of these highly-sought after permits each year, but there is limited quota for these hunts!
The first area that is hunted is near the outfitter’s main lodge which is a mixture of open fields and dense bush. Another area that will be hunted and monitored is adjacent to Kruger National Park and Phalaborwa. Due to the good populations of these animals utilizing warthog holes to travel under the park fences at will, there are a lot of hungry hyenas present in this area.
Many outfitters dream of areas like this, but this outfitter has access to them! This is your best chance of getting a true trophy spotted hyena that I know of in South Africa without paying for a 10 or 12-day hunt. The outfitter is confident that he can get you a spotted hyena during a 7-day hunt.
The Spotted Hyena Hunting Lodge
You will be staying at a comfortable tented camp that features comfortable beds and en-suite bathroom facilities. The lodge also features a small pool for the use of hunters coming in the early or late seasons. The food, wine, and service at this lodge are a great example of what makes South African hospitality famous. Meals are served three times daily and are customized to a client’s particular taste. Most hunters want to eat some of the local game and the kitchen staff will be happy to show you their flair for preparing venison in a variety of tasty dishes. Because this is a 100% night-time hunt, meal times will be adjusted to accommodate the hunting schedule
.
Toasting the day’s hunt around the campfire with a cold beer or one of South Africa’s famous wines is the perfect way to end a day of hunting. Daily laundry service, an attentive camp staff, first-class sleeping accommodations, and beautiful vistas make it easy to recuperate from a hard day in the bush.
The lodge features permanent electrical power. Cell phone service and internet are available in the camp.
Spotted Hyena Hunting Methods
Before your arrival, baits will be put out in all of the hyena hunting areas, and trail cameras will be placed and monitored on these bait sites. The bait site with the most activity will be where you start your hunting adventure. This is 100% a night hunt. Methods that will be used are baiting and waiting in a blind, calling, and spotlighting. All three methods may be employed until your spotted hyena is in the salt!
This hunt is available from March through November, with the winter being the preferred time (June-Sept). There are also some other exceptional night-time trophies available at these concessions. Common plains game and specialty animal prices may be viewed via the link below:
GETTING THERE
Most hunters will overnight in Johannesburg at the Afton Guest House and then drive to the hunting area the next morning. The PH will pick you up in Johannesburg and transport you by vehicle to the hunting concession, where you can settle in and sight in your rifles in preparation for that night's hunt.
TAXIDERMY
The outfitter uses Splitting Image Taxidermy, which I believe is the best taxidermist in South Africa. They will also handle your dip and pack and shipping should you wish to ship your trophy to your taxidermist in the US.

Testimonials
"First, I wanted to tell you the buffalo hunt with the outfitter you booked me with was great! The PH took me to a farm where there was a good herd of buffalo and I shot a 40” old dagga boy. I could have taken another one a bit wider, 42”, with hard bosses but he did not have that old rough beat-up look I was after."

"I spent weeks visiting websites for outfitters in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, comparing pre-made packages and regular fees. In the end, for a 7-day, six animal hunt with my son as an observer/hunter, John Martins had the best price."
