About the Plains Game Trophy Animals:
This plains game package includes five species of antelope. The nyala is the biggest of the five and has striking markings and spiral horns. You can expect your trophy to be between 24”-27”, though 30” trophies have been harvested here. The nyala prefers the cover of dense bush, while the impala, known for its agility and impressive leaps, is commonly found in open savannas. You can expect your trophy to be an average of 22”, though shooting one as big as 25”-27” is possible and they have come off this concession before. Smaller antelope like the duiker and steenbuck are more secretive, preferring thick vegetation where they rely on speed and stealth to evade predators. Your steenbuck trophy can be expected around 4”. The blesbuck, with its distinctive white face, is a herd-dwelling grazer often seen roaming the open plains. The typical blesbuck you can expect to harvest here will be between 13”-15”.
This package also includes four other non-antelope species. The zebra, easily recognized by its black-and-white stripes, often runs in herds, and they use numbers and speed to evade predators. You’ll be focused on finding a mature trophy with a good hide. The warthog, though stocky in appearance, is surprisingly quick and uses its tusks for both digging and defense. The average tusks here measure between 8”-10”, though bigger can be found on this concession. The clever jackal plays a key role as both a scavenger and hunter, while the porcupine, Africa’s largest rodent, relies on its sharp quills for protection.
The Hunting Area and Terrain:
This 12,000-acre hunting concession in the Limpopo Province of South Africa is near Alldays, just south of the Botswana border. The landscape is a classic African bushveld mix, featuring some dense thickets that provide cover for the game, areas of open grassy plains that allow for clear spotting and stalking, and a blend of tall trees and small shrubs that cover the majority of the concession.
Rolling hills add an elevation element to the hunting here, while riverine areas weave through parts of the concession. These diverse areas make for quite a varied landscape. Paired with the varied trophy list, you can expect to experience a range of exciting hunting techniques.
Hunting Seasons:
This hunt is available year-round and can be booked for any time other than from mid-December until January 10. That being said, hunting between the months of May through September will give you the best hunting experience, as it is dryer during these months and the bush tends to thin out a bit, giving you the best chance to spot the biggest trophies easier.
About the Outfitter:
This outfitter brings decades of experience to creating unforgettable and successful African safaris. Having managed this specific concession for over 13 years, he holds exclusive hunting rights and knows the land intimately. His highly trained camp staff is attentive and detailed and will ensure everything during your stay is taken care of. His kitchen staff is the true gem here, as the food served is some of the best meals you’ll find anywhere in Africa.
From the moment you arrive, his passion for hunting and hospitality is clear. He values each guest and is committed to providing an incredible experience. His concessions are professionally managed to maintain strong genetics and healthy animal populations, ensuring top-quality trophies. Staying with him means enjoying world-class hunting, a comfortable and relaxing lodge, and outstanding meals.
Lodge and Accommodations:
You’ll be staying at a 3.5-star lodge that features individual rooms. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and A/C. The main lodge features a pool, lounge, bar, and both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The patio has a firepit to relax at after your day’s hunt.
The outstanding part about this lodge is its incredible food. The kitchen staff are some of the best I’ve ever experienced in Africa, and they consistently produce top-notch meals. The food and drinks here are superb and are certainly the standout feature here. Cell phone and internet service is also available while in camp.
A Typical Day Hunting:
Your day will start with a light breakfast and some coffee at the lodge prepared by the kitchen staff. After fueling up, you and your PH will assess the day's conditions to choose the best spot to begin the morning hunt. Most of the animals in this package will be hunted in the traditional spot-and-stalk technique. You’ll often start by driving along riverbanks and near water sources, scouting for fresh tracks or a glimpse of animals on your hunt list. Once a promising sign is spotted, it's time to hop out of the vehicle and begin a classic spot-and-stalk approach on foot.
Navigating through this concession’s diverse terrains—from dense thickets to open grassy plains—you'll rely on your PH’s observations of the animals and stealth to get within a good shooting range. Patience is key, as each stalk presents its own set of challenges. If you are able to spot a good trophy and are within a comfortable shooting range, you’ll set up on a pair of shooting sticks, and line up on your trophy to take your shot!
Around midday, you'll head back to the lodge for lunch and to plan the afternoon hunt’s strategy. As the day cools down, you and your PH will return to the bush, taking advantage of the increased animal activity in the late afternoon. The fading light offers prime opportunities to spot the game as it emerges to begin grazing. Once the sun sets, you'll return to the lodge to enjoy a well-prepared dinner, relax by the fire, and recount the day's adventures, all while looking forward to the next day's hunt.
For the porcupine and jackal, these animals will be hunted at night. You will either hunt these with a spotlight or hunt them over bait. The duiker and Steenbuck can also be hunted at night using a spotlight, but there is also a good chance to spot these guys during the day as well. You and your PH will coordinate to see what hunting methods will work best for you and what will give you the best chance to snag that trophy!
Other Available Animals:
There are many other great animals to take if you have the chance to during your hunt! The species below are all able to be found in trophy quality here on the concession!
Trophy Care and Shipping:
Your animal will be skinned and put in salt after harvesting. Splitting Image will typically pick up your skins about 30 days after your safari ends.
Rental Rifle:
Rifle rental cost is $100 for the entire hunt and ammunition costs $200 per box.
Depending on your PH, the outfitter has these rifle calibers available to rent, with solids available for each of them:
- .223
- .308
- .375 H&H
If you plan to bring your own rifle, the outfitter recommends calibers in the .300s and above, such as a .300, .30-06, .308, and .375.
Getting There:
You will first fly into Johannesburg and, depending on the time of your arrival, either fly directly to Polokwane or stay overnight in the African Sky guest house and fly out the next morning. There, you'll meet the outfitter in the arrivals hall and begin your 2-hour trip to the hunting lodge. If choosing to come from Johannesburg, it is a 5-hour drive to the lodge and a $400 round trip charge. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by the lodge staff and begin preparing for the next day’s hunt!
Deposit and Payment Policy:
A 30% deposit is due to book this hunt. The full balance must be paid either by US cash, wire transfer, or credit card (3% fee) at arrival, with any extra animals paid at the end of the hunt.
Cancellation Policy:
Deposits are non-refundable. The outfitter may allow a safari to be rescheduled once if requested a minimum of 90 days in advance of the start of the safari at the sole discretion of the outfitter. Rescheduling a hunt for the subsequent year is subject to that year's price list. Any rescheduled safaris are subject to a $150 administration fee to be paid directly to the booking agent. Travel insurance can be obtained to cover unexpected illnesses. A Travel Policy is strongly recommended when traveling to remote areas in foreign countries.
Exclusions: International and domestic airfare, rifle rental, ammunition, rifle importation costs, shipment of trophies to a taxidermist, taxidermy, international shipping of trophies, before and after hotels and meals, insurance, gratuities

Testimonials
"I spent weeks visiting websites for outfitters in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, comparing pre-made packages and regular fees. In the end, for a 7-day, six animal hunt with my son as an observer/hunter, John Martins had the best price."

"I would Highly recommend my PH and Discount African Hunts. John got me a great deal with a top of the line outfitter. They both went out of their way to make sure my hunt and everything else about it was great."

"In August 2014 I took a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts in the Northwest Province of South Africa. The PH's worked hard to customize the hunt for me as I wanted a challenging stalk ending with taking the lioness at close range by an open sighted double rifle. They exceeded my expectations as 12 miles of tracking ended with me shooting the highly agitated lioness at a distance of 25 yards with a couple of rounds of 450 NE".
"I highly recommend a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts."
