THE SMALL ANTELOPE HUNTING AREA

This small antelope safari takes place on an exclusive 145,000-hectare (358,000 acres) hunting concession in the Sofala Province of central Mozambique, one of the greatest areas for these species in all of Africa.  There are 6 small antelope species present in the concession. Those species are:

  • Livingstone Suni
  • Red Duiker
  • Blue Duiker (Limited)
  • Oribi
  • Sharpe’s Grysbok
  • Grey (Common) Duiker

This is hands down the best concession for these species in Mozambique and sightings of 200 suni per day are not uncommon. The hunting area consists of flat coastal forest terrain with patches of large open grassland savannah. In other words, this is the perfect habitat for red and blue duiker, Sharp’s grysbok, oribi, suni, and grey duiker!

THE SMALL ANTELOPE HUNT

This hunt for suni and small antelope in Mozambique will be primarily done on foot using the spot and stalk method. Once a trophy antelope is spotted, you will stalk to within shooting distance.  An accurate shot is necessary as these antelope make rather small targets.  Sneaking up on a trophy member of the Tiny Ten is a lot more challenging and exciting than many hunters realize. There are blue duiker in this area, but they are somewhat scarce and can be difficult.

This is a great chance to take several of the antelopes that make up Africa’s tiny ten. With an abundance of these small antelopes present, you will be able to put several of these diminutive antelopes in the salt!

TROPHY FEES

You may also take other common plains game species while hunting for small antelopes in Mozambique. Trophy fees for the small antelopes and other species of plains game are listed below:

The best time of year to Hunt Small Antelopes in Mozambique is June through October when the weather is cooler.

It is not unusual to see 200 suni per day in this area!

Getting There

You will take a commercial flight from Johannesburg, South Africa (JNB) to Beira, Mozambique (TET).  Daily flights are available Monday – Friday to Tete from Johannesburg, South Africa on Airlink.  Do not fly LAM, as they are unreliable!

You will arrive in Beira, where you will be met by your PH and driven to the camp that will serve as the base for your hunt. The drive is a minimum of 7 hours one way, depending on road conditions and traffic. R/T Charter flights are $3,200 if not backed up to other flights. Scheduling hunts to proceed or follow other hunts will reduce this cost.

So what are you waiting for?  Isn’t it about time that you put some trophy small antelopes in your game room?
