THE LIMPOPO LONG RANGE HUNTING SAFARI AREA

This is a great deal for hunters wanting to take their long-range shooting abilities from the practice range and apply their skills in the field. This Long-range cull hunting safari package in Limpopo will take place on farms that total around 2,800 hectares. The main camp is located about 2.5 hours north of Johannesburg. The closest town on the map is the town of Vaalwater. The terrain varies from flat with thick bushveld to mountainous. There is a good mixture of rolling hills, open plains as well as thick bush, thus making it perfect long-range plains game hunting habitat.

LONG RANGE CULL HUNTING METHODS

After your arrival in camp you will head to the 1,200-yd private rifle range to verify your rifle’s ballistics and accuracy. Here you will establish the maximum ethical shooting range for your hunt. This demonstration of your long-distance shooting ability and maximum ethical range is mandatory for this hunt. The outfitter has established this method of demonstrated maximum effective range to prevent unnecessarily wounding animals and spending inordinate amounts of time tracking them.

Long-range hunting is very specialized and the hunter must have good rifleman skills. It is recommended that you bring your own rifle that you are familiar with. The outfitter does have a custom 300 win mag that has been especially built for long range shooting that is available for rental.

A typical days hunting from base camp will include coffee and snacks and you will head out at sunrise. The property offers good opportunities for shots from 300-700 yards. After the morning hunting session you will return to camp for a delicious brunch, after which you can either relax for a while or head straight back out. The afternoon hunting session takes place until dusk, at which time you will return to camp and prepare for dinner and the evenings festivities. If you hunt on some of the surrounding farms, you will normally take a packed lunch and stay out all day, either on the savannah or in the mountains.

THE LONG-RANGE HUNTING CAMP

This Long-Range Hunting Safari camp is a hybrid consisting of a 4-star tented camp and two permanent 4-Star chalets that feature permanent electrical power along with cell phone and internet service. The camp is split, with two tents and two permanent luxury chalets. The tented camp has 2 tents that have two beds each in them so the tented camp portion can accommodate a maximum of 4 hunters at a time. The tents have nice comfortable beds and have in-suite toilets.  The shower facility sits between the two tents and is shared. Each permanent chalet can sleep 3 people.

The food and service are excellent and the hunting is awesome! The cooking, eating and gathering area is under a large traditional thatched roof, so you will experience many of the amenities available when hunting from a lodge, but the safari will have that old-Africa feel. The camp features permanent electricity and has both internet and cell phone service available in camp.

There is a good-sized boma area for sitting around the fireplace at night while watching the steaks cook. This is a great option for families where mom and dad can stay in the luxury of a permanent luxury chalet while the kids can experience staying in a tented camp. This is a modern way to hunt modern Africa with a traditional flair!

This area is not a malaria area.  No special precautions are required!

THE TERRAIN

The terrain is classified as bushveld, which means that it is grassland covered with various types of trees and bushes. This specific hunting area has plenty of open areas to spot animals, but also has sufficient elevation and bush cover to set up on for an opportunity to shoot. The main hunting areas are a mixture of flat savannah and mountains, with a perennial stream running along one side of the property. Other areas are also hunted, all being within a short driving distance.

GETTING THERE

Most hunters that arrive in the morning will be picked up at the Johannesburg airport (JNB) and will be driven directly to the camp, where you will settle in, catch a late meal and go to bed to prepare for the next day’s hunt to begin. It is about a 2.5-hour drive from Johannesburg. If your flight arrives in the late afternoon or evening, I recommend that you overnight at the comfortable Afton Safari Lodge and then have your outfitter pick you up in the morning and drive you to the lodge. When departing, you will be driven to the Johannesburg airport for your return flight home.

Deposit Policy:  $1,000 required at time of booking.  Balance of the package and trophy fees for any additional animals taken or wounded that are not in the package are due at the end of the hunt in US cash or by wire transfer.

REFUND POLICY:  Deposits are non-refundable but may be rescheduled once if requested more than 120 days prior to the start of the hunt, and the rescheduled safari is subject to the outfitter’s available open dates.  Any rescheduled safaris are subject to a $150 rescheduling fee. Safaris that are rescheduled for a subsequent year are subject to that subsequent year’s pricing.  In the case of a terminal illness or death, a full refund will be made. In the case of a cancellation, the deposit will be retained as liquidated damages.
