Completing the Spiral Horn Slam is a feat few hunters can claim. Taking these four trophies makes for a fun and exciting adventure and is one I highly recommend! These four animals exemplify the unique qualities of African hunting and this outfitter makes sure that you harvest the best examples of each species and truly enjoy your hunting time with them!
About the Spiral Horn Slam:
South Africa is home to four incredible types of spiral-horned antelopes: the Nyala, Eland, Kudu, and Bushbuck. These animals are known for their unique, twisted horns. Their horns play a big role in survival, helping them fight off rivals, and attracting mates. Taking all four of these antelopes is known as the South Africa Spiral Horn Slam, a major achievement in any African hunter’s career. Completing the Slam is no easy task, but we have made it easy with an all-in-one package at a great price!
The Kudu is one of the most recognizable, famous for its long, spiral horns and ability to disappear into the brush in an instant. They are a highly sought-after trophy and a symbol of African hunting. The Nyala is another prized trophy, with beautiful markings and impressive horns. Nyalas prefer thick, bushy areas, making them hard to spot and a real challenge for hunters looking for a trophy bull.
The Eland and Bushbuck, though very different in size, both stand out in their own ways. The Eland is the biggest antelope in the world, often found grazing in open grasslands. Despite its massive size, it’s surprisingly fast and agile. Its thick, spiraled horns and sheer strength make it a highly respected animal. On the other hand, the Limpopo Bushbuck is the smallest of the four but just as fascinating. It’s extremely adaptable, living in forests, grasslands, and even near human settlements. With its unique coat patterns and sleek horns, it’s a stunning sight in the wild.
The Hunting Area and Terrain:
This concession lies in the Limpopo province of South Africa and totals just under 7,500 acres. It is near Alldays just south of the Botswana border. This area has quite varied terrain, with everything from open grassy plains to very thick bushveld. The majority of bush encountered here has low shrubs and tall trees. In certain areas, this concession also has gently rolling hills and riverine draws, which makes it feel quite diverse.
Hunting Seasons:
The outfitter is able to conduct this hunt anytime during the year. However, he recommends the best time to hunt the spiral horns is from May through September. These cooler months mean the animals will be more active and there will be a better chance to spot a giant!
About the Outfitter:
For years, this outfitter has been delivering top-notch hunting experiences and is now bringing his incredible packages to Discount African Hunts at an unbeatable value. He and his team go above and beyond to make every hunter feel welcome, comfortable, and excited for the adventure ahead. With a strong reputation built on excellence, this outfitter is committed to keeping it that way. Their focus on trophy quality and customer satisfaction is clear in everything they do. The lodge is well-maintained by a fantastic camp staff, and the hunting concession is carefully managed to support a healthy population of high-quality trophies. I highly recommend this hunt with this outfitter.
Lodge and Accommodations:
On this Spiral Horn Slam safari, you will find yourself staying at this outfitter's 3.5-star lodge. Everything here is top-notch. The lodge is fully connected to the power grid, with backup solar and generator power in case of blackouts and brownouts. Each room has A/C and power. The main lodge and rooms are luxurious and comfortable.
There is cellular phone service and internet service here at the lodge. It is extremely clean and the staff do go out of their way for you. They are well-trained and some of the best. The food here is the best part of the lodge. Kudos to their chef, who does an exemplary job of keeping his guests full of delicious food.
A Typical Day Hunting:
This hunt will use a spot-and-stalk method of hunting that is traditional to many African safaris. You’ll start your morning early with a light breakfast and some coffee before loading up into a vehicle and heading out. You and your PH will drive out and glass for a spiral horn trophy while in the field. This is where patience comes in, as the PH will know the best quality animals to take and what will be worth stalking. Once you both find one and decide to take him, you’ll leave the vehicle and begin your stalk. You will sneak in close and find a good shooting angle where you are comfortable. Once your PH gives you the go-ahead and confirms this is the trophy you want, it’s on you to pull the trigger! If you make your shot and harvest your animal, it’s the staff’s turn to jump in. They will clean your trophy and bring them back to camp, where they will be skinned and the hides salted to await pickup by the taxidermist, Splitting Image. You’ll be able to relax back at camp while this is taking place with a drink or a dip in the pool. After all this excitement, then it’s on to the next day for your next spiral horn!
Other Available Animals:
There are many other great animals to take if you have the chance either during or after your spiral horn slam hunt! These species below are all able to be found in trophy quality here on the concession!
Trophy Care and Shipping:
Your animal will be skinned and put in salt after harvesting. Splitting Image will typically pick up your skins about 30 days after your safari ends.
Rental Rifle:
Rifle rental cost is $100 for the entire hunt and ammunition costs $200 per box. ($10 / bullet)
Depending on your PH, the outfitter has these rifle calibers available to rent:
- 375 H&H
- .308
- 30-06
- 7x64
If you plan to bring your own rifle, the outfitter recommends calibers in the .300s and above such as a .300, .30-06, .308, and .375.
Getting There:
You will first fly into Johannesburg and, depending on the time of your arrival, either fly directly to Polokwane or stay overnight in the African Sky guest house and fly out the next morning. There, you'll meet the outfitter in the arrivals hall and begin your 2-hour trip to the hunting lodge. If choosing to come from Johannesburg, it is a 5-hour drive to the lodge and a $400 round trip charge. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by the lodge staff and begin preparing for the next day’s hunt!
Deposit and Payment Policy:
A 30% deposit is due to book this hunt. The full balance must be paid either by US cash, wire transfer, or credit card (3.% fee) at arrival, with any extra animals paid at the end of the hunt.
Cancellation Policy:
Deposits are non-refundable. The outfitter may allow a safari to be rescheduled once if requested a minimum of 90 days in advance of the start of the safari at the sole discretion of the outfitter. Rescheduling a hunt for the subsequent year is subject to that year's price list. Any rescheduled safaris are subject to a $150 administration fee to be paid directly to the booking agent. Travel insurance can be obtained to cover unexpected illnesses. A Travel Policy is strongly recommended when traveling to remote areas in foreign countries.
