This genetics cull hunt is being offered at a highly discounted rate and includes both male and female animals! It is perfect for the hunter who wants to take lots of species and even add some female examples to their collection. These animals may have broken horns, be older cows, or animals with odd or inferior horns. This hunt is all about helping the concession flourish with only the highest quality animals on it!
The Hunting Area and Terrain:
This 17,000-acre game reserve is extremely well-managed and very untouched. It receives very little hunting pressure, and the animals that reside here are very calm and unaccustomed to humans and hunters. Engaging with and hunting these animals who have never been hunted before is a markedly different experience than nearly every other game farm in the country. It is located in KwaZulu-Natal and consists of very diverse terrain. Everything from dense African bush to open plains and even some deep valleys and mountainous overlooks can be found here, making for a very engaging and constantly changing hunt. It is also home to four out of the big five, and it's common that while glassing or stalking you may come across rhinos, elephants, and buffalo. Lions are the only species out of the big five not found here.
You can always shoot trophies if you choose as well! This concession hosts exceptional trophies, particularly top-notch eland, wildebeest, kudu, red hartebeest, and blesbuck. With dedication and effort, 60”+ kudu can be found on the surrounding free-range areas. The months of April and May are the best bet if a giant kudu is your goal (any kudu over 60” incurs an additional $8,000 trophy fee). Other especially high-quality animals here are eland, as there are many old bulls with the fringe and body size that everyone wants. There are also many cape buffalo that range between 40” to 48”. Red hartebeests and blesbucks are also abundant, with the former often scoring above 23” and the latter between 16” to 18”.
This reserve also hosts many big crocs and hippos! You may also see them near the reserve's water sources during your hunt. Keep your distance from these guys as they’re big and hungry!
Hunting Seasons:
This hunt is available from March through September, but the outfitter recommends coming from June through September for this hunt.
Wing Shooting:
Wing shooting days may be added in season. A mixture of upland bird hunting for Franklin and Guinea, Doves and Pigeons, and Ducks and Geese is available at an all-in daily rate of $345/day. Rifle rental is $25 / day plus ammo at cost. The current cost of shotgun ammo is about $17 / box.
Wing Shooting Seasons:
- May: Ducks, Geese, Franklin and Guinea
- June – August: Doves and Pigeons, Franklin and Guinea, Ducks and Geese
Wing Shooting Methods:
- Pigeons and Doves – Hunt over Maize Fields
- Franklin and Guinea – Hunt behind dogs or with the use of beaters
- Ducks and Geese – Hunt from Blinds in the evenings when the birds are returning
About the Outfitter:
This outfitter has been solely managing this reserve for about a decade, and during that time has worked to cultivate only the highest quality animals possible. Over the past decade of their management, this land has consistently produced the best trophies in the area. Their client-first mentality doesn’t just stop at ensuring your hunt goes well and all your animals have been harvested but also extends into camp and to the level of service they provide from the moment they pick you up at the airport. They will ensure that your time spent with them is memorable and any needs you have are catered to! The 4-star lodge where you’ll be staying and the lodge staff they have are some of the best and will do anything in their power to make sure you enjoy your time spent with them.
Lodge and Accommodations:
This 4-star traditional-style African lodge is very comfortable and will have you relaxing in no time. There are six bedrooms here, and each has its own private en-suite bathroom. Each bedroom has a queen bed in it, and the staff will happily split it into two singles if required. Each room also is well-appointed with outlets and fans.
The camp staff here make you and your comfort a priority. The food is very good, and all the beds are very comfortable. The lodge itself is kept up very well by the staff. Cell phone and internet service is available here at the lodge as well.
A Typical Day Hunting:
Your typical day hunting will begin early in the morning before sunrise. Depending on your preferences, you’ll have just a light breakfast or a full prepared meal if desired. While you’re eating, your PH will ensure your vehicle is loaded with snacks and drinks for a day out in the bush. After you finish breakfast, you and your PH will load up your gear and head out into the field.
For this cull hunt, you and your PH will be doing a lot of glassing looking for the right animals. You and your PH will be looking for animals that may have broken or odd horns, older animals that may not produce quality offspring or other examples that are not trophy quality. Even with the abundance of game animals on this reserve, this cull hunt takes a tremendous amount of patience and glassing, as you search for the right cull animal to take out. The terrain here offers many lookouts perfect for spotting the right cull animal, and the mountainsides also make for a prime area for observing the valleys below. Don’t be surprised if you see elephants, rhinos, and buffalos while out in the field - they are here and they are abundant!
Around midday, you can expect to come back to the lodge for lunch and to rest up for a few hours. During that time, your PH will make sure your cooler and truck is restocked with drinks and snacks and that everything is ready to go for the evening hunt. Just as the heat of the day starts to wear, you’ll hop back in and start hunting again until sunset. For the evening, you’ll head back to the lodge where a full sit-down dinner will be waiting for you. You can enjoy some drinks out by the fire and chat with your PH about the plan for tomorrow’s hunt.

They will then be salted and dried, and the salt will be changed daily. They will be handed off to Splitting Image, who will pick up the trophies within 7 days of your hunt.
Getting There:
Typically all international flights fly into OR Tambo Int Airport in Johannesburg. If you arrive mid to late in the afternoon, you’ll stay overnight at the African Sky guest house and be driven to camp the next morning. If arriving earlier in the day, the outfitter will meet you at the airport to pick you up and drive you to camp that day. A lunch along with snacks and cold drinks will be packed to enjoy halfway between the airport and the lodge. It is a four-hour drive from the airport to the lodge.

Testimonials
"I spent weeks visiting websites for outfitters in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, comparing pre-made packages and regular fees. In the end, for a 7-day, six animal hunt with my son as an observer/hunter, John Martins had the best price."

"In August 2014 I took a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts in the Northwest Province of South Africa. The PH's worked hard to customize the hunt for me as I wanted a challenging stalk ending with taking the lioness at close range by an open sighted double rifle. They exceeded my expectations as 12 miles of tracking ended with me shooting the highly agitated lioness at a distance of 25 yards with a couple of rounds of 450 NE".
"I highly recommend a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts."
