This hunt in Botswana takes place on a 3.7 million-acre exclusive concession that had previously been closed for 6 years until its reopening in 2023, giving you the best trophies possible! These elephant hunts in Botswana have been discounted tremendously from full price exclusively for Discount African Hunts, so don’t miss out!
About the Elephant:
The African elephant stands as the Earth's largest land animal, with males reaching heights of up to 10 feet at the shoulder and weighing a remarkable 14,000 pounds. Renowned for their impressive tusks that can extend up to 10 feet, these majestic creatures also feature large ears used for temperature regulation and long trunks employed for tasks like food retrieval, water consumption, and communication with fellow elephants. As herbivores, their diet primarily consists of grasses, leaves, and bark.
While you can expect your bull to be between 35-45 pounds, many clients in 2023 harvested bulls over 50 lbs.
The Hunting Area and Terrain:
This enormous concession spans over 3.7 million acres of prime elephant territory and is exclusive to this outfitter. The northern boundary is from Dikgatlong Dam to the boundary of the Mashatu game reserve along the Shashe River (Botswana and Zimbabwe border). Dikgaltong Dam and Lestibogo Dam are permanent water sources in the concession which draw elephants in great numbers. There was no hunting allowed in this area for 6 years, with only 1 full season being open in 2023. This concession has the biggest quota of elephants allocated from the Botswana government, an indication of the vast amounts of elephants present in the area. In 2023 the average bull harvested was between 35 and 50 pounds. Often while scouting, bulls over 50lbs are spotted along the Mashatu back line. Be prepared to see hundreds of elephants on this hunt. This area truly provides an authentic and traditional elephant hunt.
Hunting Seasons:
The season for this hunt is available from Early April through mid-September. Due to the vast quantities of elephants in this concession, coming any time during these months will provide a perfect opportunity to harvest a trophy bull.
Any of the animals in the outfitter's price list can be harvested during your elephant hunt, subject to the outfitter's limited quota.!
About the Outfitter:
This outfitter has been operating in Botswana for years, providing top-quality hunting experiences on some of the best concessions offered in the country. Since elephant hunting reopened in Botswana, this outfitter has secured an exclusive lease to this concession and is committed to managing it carefully to ensure it remains one of the best areas in the country for elephant hunting. They have invested significant amounts into their comfortable camp, top-notch staff, quality vehicles, and excellent food to ensure that every hunter who stays with them has a fantastic and memorable hunt. Their resident PH on this concession has a great reputation and successfully harvested over 30 bulls in 2023 alone. You will have a thrilling adventure while hunting your trophy elephant bull of a lifetime!
Lodge and Accommodations:
Your hunt will begin with an overnight stay in the outfitter's 4-star photographic safari lodge. The next day you will begin driving towards the outfitter's fixed ‘fly-camp’ in the heart of this enormous concession. There are 3 separate air-conditioned bedrooms, with each room having sleeping arrangements for 2 adults. Each room also has its own en-suite bathrooms.
.
This camp also features a pool and outdoor bar/dining area. The beds are high quality and the meals are fantastic. The camp staff are all extremely attentive and dedicated to doing whatever they can to ensure you have a pleasurable stay. Internet service is available while in camp.
A Typical Day Hunting Elephant in Botswana:
You will begin your day by waking up early to a light breakfast with your PH. After eating, you’ll head out in the safari vehicle to look for fresh tracks and signs of shooter bulls. Since the camp is inside the concession, hunting begins almost immediately after driving out of camp. Once tracks are found, you will follow them as far as possible in the vehicle, and then proceed to follow them on foot. This is a hybrid hunt, as the hunting areas are so vast that the vehicle is necessary to get you to within walking range of the elephants, so be prepared to hunt these elephants with your feet. For those that are mobility-limited, a variation in hunting methods will be adopted by concentrating on permanent water sources, as elephants must come to water at least every other day.
Depending on the PH's plan for the day you will either return to camp or a lunch/brunch will be set up in the bush. After a short midday rest, you’ll head back out to continue hunting in the afternoon, then return to camp in the evening. Dinner will then be served once you arrive back, and you can enjoy some time to yourself relaxing before the next day’s hunt.
Rental Rifles:
This outfitter has multiple different rifles for rent.
- 375H&H
- .458 WinMag
- .458 Lott
If bringing your own rifle, Botswana's dangerous game hunting regulations dictate that all calibers must be .375H&H or larger.
Trophy Care and Shipping:
At the end of a successful hunt, this outfitter understands that trophy care and shipping are of the utmost importance to you. This outfitter takes every step necessary to ensure that your trophy is carefully handled and prepared before leaving camp.
After you've downed your elephant, depending on the accessibility of the downed trophy and the availability of the recovery team, either a separate recovery team is dispatched to the hunt site or the local tribe will be called to butcher the elephant on site. The recovery team is equipped with heavy-duty machinery to ensure the safe recovery of your trophy. They will lift and remove the entire carcass before delivering it to the skinning shed. By removing the carcass from the bushveld, they can ensure the safety of your trophy and reduce the risk of contamination that is usually present when large game such as elephants are slaughtered in the field. Once your trophy has been carefully skinned and prepared, the meat is distributed to the local community.
Bullseye Taxidermy will come and collect the trophy from camp within 10 days. It will be transported to their facility in South Africa for processing.
Getting There:
Typically all international flights fly into OR Tambo Int Airport in Johannesburg. Depending on your arrival time, you will either meet directly with the outfitter at the airport and be driven to camp to arrive that evening, or you willl stay overnight at the African Sky guest house and be driven to camp the next morning. It is a six-hour trip by road to the first camp from OR Tambo Airport.
The border crossing post closes at 6:00 pm, so if you are arriving after 10:00 am, you will need to overnight in Johannesburg and drive to Botswana the following morning.
Although it is a long drive, the prize at the end makes the road trip worth it.
Deposit and Payment Policy:
A 50% deposit of $14,000 is due to book this elephant hunt. The remainder of the package balance must be paid 30 days before the beginning of the hunt. Charges for additional animals are due at the end of the safari by wire transfer or US cash only.
Cancellation Policy:
Deposits are non-refundable. Date changes can be requested within the same hunting season at the outfitter's discretion. Since this is a quota-based hunt, the hunt needs to be taken in the same year it was booked for. Date changes should be communicated 90 days before the safari start date. New dates will need to be available. Upon any rescheduling, a $150 fee is to be paid directly to the booking agent.
EXCLUSIONS: International airfare, taxidermy, international shipping of trophies, insurance, spirits, gratuities

Testimonials
"First, I wanted to tell you the buffalo hunt with the outfitter you booked me with was great! The PH took me to a farm where there was a good herd of buffalo and I shot a 40” old dagga boy. I could have taken another one a bit wider, 42”, with hard bosses but he did not have that old rough beat-up look I was after."

"In August 2014 I took a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts in the Northwest Province of South Africa. The PH's worked hard to customize the hunt for me as I wanted a challenging stalk ending with taking the lioness at close range by an open sighted double rifle. They exceeded my expectations as 12 miles of tracking ended with me shooting the highly agitated lioness at a distance of 25 yards with a couple of rounds of 450 NE".
"I highly recommend a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts."

"I looked long and far for a good deal on a lioness hunt. By far, Discount African Hunts had the best price. I had the hunt of a lifetime and took a beautiful lioness at close range with my bow. The Professional Hunter was first class, the lodge was first class and my whole experience was unbelievable. I will book with John Martins when I return to Africa to hunt leopard in Zimbabwe.
